Liverpool Against The Cuts
Liverpool City Council has called an Extraordinary General Meeting to further discuss the savage budget cuts that will wreak havoc in our city and on our communities. [For a breakdown see here]
The council, headed by the Labour Party, say there is no alternative but to carry out cuts to jobs and services. However the fantastic public sector strike over pensions on November 30 shows there is an alternative - millions struck across the country against austerity measures and attempts to make people work longer, pay more and get less.
In Liverpool around 15,000 marched through streets lined with supportive onlookers, the air was filled with the sound of applause and car horns honking in solidarity. It was the biggest march in the city in generations and evoked a history that shows working class people don't have to accept cuts and attacks.
As we approach Christmas, and many will be worried about what the new year holds for them and their families, we have to keep up the pressure on the council and say, young and old, black and white, public and private, NO CUTS!
*Join the lobby at the town hall from 4.30pm and spread the word among your friends and family, workmates and classmates, community campaigns and trade unions*
